Jason Gresl multi-clarinetist, has performed in a variety of orchestral and chamber music settings throughout the US as well as in Italy, Panama, Belgium, and the Netherlands. By day, he stays busy as the clarinet instructor at Andrews University and Lake Michigan College; by night, Jason can be found performing contemporary classical concerts with his duo Claricello, freelancing in various Michiana orchestras, acting on the community theatre stage, and exploring multidisciplinary arts in his ensemble, In The Mix. Recent performances include the South Bend Symphony, Loon Lake Live! (NY), Musicians for Michiana, in recital at the Ruthmere museum, and in the pit orchestra for the South Bend run of the Broadway musicals Wicked and Chicago. Jason earned degrees from Oberlin Conservatory and University of Colorado-Boulder, continuing with post-graduate studies at Rotterdams Conservatorium in the Netherlands. Beginning in 2014, he began his journey into the field of historical performance, and has performed on Baroque recorder for Notre Dame's performance of Monteverdi's The Coronation of Poppea, in concert with Fleur de Lys, and at the Oberlin Baroque Performance Institute where he has studied with Michael Lynn for two summers. In his spare time, Jason attempts to learn feats of wonder with decks of cards and explores the culinary adventures of Thai and Indian cuisines. He can be heard on recordings produced by the Innova and Pro Organo labels.

Lara Turner, cello, baroque cello, and viola da gamba, is an active performer who enjoys a varied career performing music ranging from contemporary to baroque. Lara has held the position of Principal Cello with the South Bend Symphony since 2004. She has been a featured soloist performing with the symphony: Milhaud’s Concerto No. 1 (2007) and Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme (2013). Lara is a member of Claricello, a clarinet and cello duo co-founded with her husband Jason Gresl. Claricello, focusing primarily on contemporary classical music written for this unique combination, is often featured at the Loon Lake Live! Chamber Music Festival in Upstate New York and has performed in Canada, Italy, Holland, and across the United States. Their performance of “Dust” by Belinda Reynolds can be heard on her CD entitled Cover. Equally at home in the early music genre, Lara has held the position of Principal Cello in the Baroque Chamber Orchestra of Colorado since it began in 2005. She can be heard as a member of this ensemble on their first CD, Cornucopia. She performs regularly with other early music groups including Louisville’s Bourbon Baroque and the Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra. Last spring she had the opportunity to perform the viola da gamba arias in St. Matthew Passion at the Baldwin-Wallace Bach Festival. A dedicated teacher, Lara maintains private cello studios in South Bend and Evansville, IN and serves as adjunct cello faculty at Saint Mary’s College, Andrew’s University, and Bethel College. Lara holds a Bachelor of Music degree in cello performance with a minor in baroque cello and viola da gamba from the Oberlin Conservatory where she studied with Andor Toth, Jr. and Catharina Meints. At the San Francisco Conservatory she earned a Master of Music degree in cello performance, studying with Bonnie Hampton. She currently lives in South Bend, IN with her husband and daughter.

Mary Anne Ballard, member of The Baltimore Consort and local ensemble Fleur de Lys, also plays with Galileo's Daughters, Brio, and the Oberlin Consort of Viols. Formerly, she directed and coached early music at the Peabody Conservatory, Princeton University, and the University of Pennsylvania (where she founded the Collegium Musicum), and she currently serves on the faculty of the summer Oberlin Baroque Institute and various viol workshops.

New York City based Director of Music and keyboardist John Austin Clark serves as co-founding Artistic Director for Bourbon Baroque, an ensemble that performs the music of the Baroque on period instruments. He received his collegiate training at Oberlin Conservatory of Music (B.M.) in music education and at McGill University (M.M.) in harpsichord performance.

 

In addition to his administrative responsibilities with Bourbon Baroque, Mr. Clark operates a private piano studio, is an active accompanist and vocal coach, directs musical theatre and opera, and performs regularly in the New York City area and beyond as well as adjudicating for the Kentucky Bach vocal competition among others. 

 

He prefers dry reds, spicy ryes, and floral whites. 

Soprano Laurel Thomas teaches voice at Saint Mary's College.  She received her B.A. from Occidental Collge, M.M. from the University of Illinois and her D.M.A. degree from the University of Texas, where she studied with renowned French baritone Gerard Souzay.  Thomas has appeared with the San Antonio Symphony Orchestra, the Cactus Pear Festival, the Songmakers, the San Antonio Festival, the 24th Street Experiment Theatre, the Texas Bach Choir, and the San Antonio Choral Society. Other performances include works with the South Bend Chamber Singers, Fleur de Lys, the North West Indiana Symphony, the LaPorte County Symphony Orchesta, and most importantly, Claricello!

Jennet Ingle loves the oboe. She has built an active career around performing, teaching, making reeds for, and writing about it, and believes deeply that everyone else loves it, too.  Perhaps they just don't know it yet.  


She performs as Principal Oboist of the South Bend Symphony and the Northwest Indiana Symphony and teaches oboe at Valparaiso University.  Since 1998 she has owned and operated Jennet Ingle Reeds, and has helped dozens of people with their own reed-making through her video series, The Five Minute Reedmaker, live monthly Reeding Circles and annual Oboe Reed Boot Camps. In her spare time, Jennet pours her energy into Prone Oboe, a blog about her active life and a behind-the-scenes look at the process of learning, teaching, and performing music at a high level.

Lana Wordel is an active performer throughout the midwest. She holds a bachelor of music degree from Northern Illinois University.
Ms. Wordel toured the United States and Mexico with the Broadway show The Lion King, and has also performed in Taipei and Trinidad with the award winning Northern Illinois University Steel Band.

She holds the position of Principal Percussionist of the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra as well as Section Percussionist of the South Bend Symphony Orchestra. She served as Principal Percussionist of the Northwest Indiana Symphony for 25 years and can also be seen in the Kalamazoo Symphony and Illinois Philharmonic.

Dedicated to music education, she maintains a private lesson studio and works with marching bands and percussion ensembles in Northwest Indiana and Illinois.

Performer Biographies

Praised for her interpretations of both classical and contemporary music, violist Rose Wollman is sought after as a soloist, chamber musician, teacher, and orchestral musician. Rose has toured North America and Europe as a founding member of the Larchmere String Quartet and the Petar Jankovich Ensemble. She has recorded CDs with both groups, most notably Clarinet Quintet and String Quartet by Stephan Krehl with the LSQ for the NAXOS label. Orchestra engagements have taken Rose to Europe and Asia, and she has played under such luminary conductors as Pierre Boulez, Fabio Luisi, Hugh Wolff, Joseph Silverstein, and Larry Rachleff. 
 
A champion of promoting and performing new music, Rose has commissioned, premiered and performed many new pieces, working with groundbreaking composers such as Pierre Boulez, Augusta Read Thomas, Gabriela Lena Frank, David Dzubay, Gabriela Ortiz, and Don Freund. Rose also enjoys bridging genres. She has recorded with Grammy nominated percussionist Michael Spiro, and has played Tango with Grammy nominated bassist Pablo Aslan and renown Argentinian pianist Julian Peralta.
 
Rose has taught viola and chamber music at the University of Evansville, DePauw University, and Indiana University. Currently she is Ensemble Coordinator and a chamber music coach for Sacred Music at Notre Dame, adjunct viola faculty at Notre Dame, and performs with ensembles around the country. Rose holds a D.M. from Indiana University, as well as degrees from the New England Conservatory and the University of Illinois. Her primary teachers are Atar Arad, Carol Rodland, and Masumi Rostad.
